Julia was elected as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta in November, 2005 and has participated in and chaired numerous committees of the Canadian Bar Association, The Law Society of Alberta and the Calgary Bar Association - including the National Legislation and Law Reform Committee and the Communications Committee.

Julia ran as a candidate in the 2004 federal election and has organized numerous public events - including a National Intensive Media Training Workshop for Law Society and Canadian Bar Association Officials as well as events and seminars for several MidWinter educational meetings for the Canadian Bar Association.

Julia was formerly a Director of the Alberta Ballet and is currently a Director of In Charge Debt Solutions Canada. She has been involved with the United Way for several years and has authored and co-authored a textbook and papers on adoption and the Child Welfare Act

Peter C. Newman cited Julia as a "Titan" in The Canadian Establishment, Volume 3 - The Titans. Further recognition of her professional accomplishments include Julia being noted as a Leading Practitioner in Litigation - Family Law of the Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory and selected to be included in "The Best Lawyers in Canada".
